Bishkek, Nov.29, 2019. /Kabar/. Turkey’s Prosecutor General's Office has provided interim information regarding Aierken Saimaiti’s murder investigation, the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan said Friday.
“According to the results of a telephone conversation between Kyrgyzstan’s Prosecutor General Otkurbek Dzhamshitov and Prosecutor General of Turkey’s Court of Cassation Mehmet Akardzha, held on Nov. 25, 2019, today the Prosecutor General's Office of Turkey provided interim information on the investigation of the murder of Saimaiti in Istanbul,” the report says.
Thus, according to the data of the Turkish Prosecutor General's Office, 4 persons were detained on suspicion of murder, who introduced themselves as such:
1. Husein Ahmetaliyev, born on Nov.18, 1991, is a citizen of Kyrgyzstan, born in Osh City.
2. Normohamat Ariphonov, born on June 11, 1988, with the words, he is a citizen of Kyrgyzstan;
3. Ali Isbeh, born on Jan.1, 1993 in Idlip, Syria;
4. Abdullah Enver, born on 1 Jan.1, 1994 in Aleppo, with the words, he is citizen of Uzbekistan.
According to the Turkish side, these individuals still deliberately conceal their true identities. This is evidenced by the fact that the detainees do not have identification documents. At the same time, according to the detainees, they did not officially cross the state border of Turkey.
To date, the Turkish law enforcement agencies are undertaking activities to establish their nationality.
This information has also been sent to the interdepartmental investigation group of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic to carry out operational and investigative measures in order to determine whether these two persons have or do not have citizenship of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Aierken Saimaiti, a businessman and Chinese citizen, was killed on Nov. 10 in a cafe in Istanbul. The name of this businessman appeared in the investigation of Ali Toktakunov, journalist of Azattyk (Kyrgyz service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, RFE/RL, which broadcasts to Kyrgyzstan) about corruption at customs. It was alleged that Saimaiti had withdrawn about $700 million from the country, and the smuggling schemes lead to former Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Service of the Kyrgyz Republic Raiym Matraiymov.
At the scene of Saimaiti’s murder, a car belonging to then Consul General of the Kyrgyz Republic in Istanbul Erkin Sopokov was found.
Yesterday, Nov. 28, 2019 former Consul General of the Kyrgyz Republic in Istanbul Erkin Sopokov was detained and placed in the temporary detention facility of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic.
