Two-day seminar on biodiversity conservation kicks off in Bishkek

Bishkek, Dec. 5, 2018. /Kabar/. A two-day seminar on capacity building and raising awareness in the field of forestry and biodiversity conservation in Kyrgyzstan has started in Bishkek, the press service of the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

The seminar is attended by heads of structural and subordinate departments of the SAEPF, directors of forest enterprises, representatives of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, non-governmental and international organizations, as well as independent experts.

The purpose of the seminar is to identify key areas and activities for developing a draft strategy and action plan for the SAEPF on capacity building and raising awareness in the field of forest management and biodiversity conservation in the Kyrgyz Republic.

At the seminar, participants work in groups and based on the results of group work; it is planned to identify the main areas of work in the field of biodiversity conservation and forestry.

An event of this scale provides a good opportunity to discuss relevant biodiversity issues with partners. In this direction, it is also necessary to raise awareness of the population, environmental education and education of the younger generation for the rational use of natural resources, and the preservation of biodiversity in the country.

The seminar is held within the framework of UNDP-GEF projects “Conservation of Globally Important Biodiversity and Associated Land and Forest Resources of Western Tian Shan Forest Mountain Ecosystems to Support Sustainable Livelihoods” and “Integrated Forest Ecosystem Management Project for Kyrgyz Republic”.
