Bishkek, Aug. 19, 2021 . / Kabar / . Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbayev received on Wednesday U.S. Charge d'Affaires Alan Meltzer and Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Bishkek Sonata Coulter.
During the meeting the sides discussed a wide range of topical issues on the bilateral agenda, the press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry said.
Kazakbaev expressed gratitude to the American side for working with the Kazakhstan to safely evacuate 15 Kyrgyz nationals from Afghanistan. The importance of seeking opportunities to jointly evacuate children and women who are Kyrgyz nationals from Syria and Iraq was highlighted.
The minister informed about the instruction of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov to provide necessary humanitarian assistance to the friendly multinational people of Afghanistan.
In this regard, it was announced to provide up to 500 visas for students from Afghanistan to study at universities of Kyrgyzstan, as well as humanitarian aid in the form of essential commodities as the situation stabilizes and the security of Kyrgyz aircrafts in Afghanistan is ensured.
The U.S. side positively noted the decision of the Kyrgyz side to provide student visas to Afghan citizens and reported on the preliminary U.S. readiness to fund the education of up to 150 Afghan students at the American University of Central Asia in Bishkek at this stage.
The progress of negotiations on the draft basic cooperation agreement, as well as other priority areas of bilateral and multilateral cooperation was debated separately.
