Bishkek, March 23, 2022 / Kabar/. Designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and inspired by a falcon in flight, the United Arab Emirates pavilion is one of the most important landmarks at the EXPO 2020 in Dubai.
The pavilion of host country the UAE is the largest of all national EXPO pavilions, it is set on an area of 15,000 square meters.
The main purpose of the pavilion is to reflect the past and present values of the nation of the United Arab Emirates. The projectors tell a story of unity of the seven Emirates, and strength in diversity of the country.
The architecture of the building is distinguished by its uniqueness. So, a large object resembles the wings of a falcon, proclaimed as the national symbol of the United Arab Emirates.
“The design of the UAE Pavilion captures the story we want to tell the world about our nation,” said UAE Minister of State and National Media Council Chairman H.E. Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber. “Our late founding father His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan used falconry expeditions to forge connections between tribes and to create a distinct national identity which ultimately led to the founding of the United Arab Emirates. Now, the falcon design will symbolize how we are connecting the UAE to the minds of the world and how as a global community we can soar to new heights through partnership and cooperation."
The four-story structure is covered with 28 carbon fiber wings that can fully open in about three minutes to reveal built-in solar panels. When not in use, the panels remain protected from the elements, including the region's powerful sandstorms. It moves every once in a while to give shade, depending on how the sun moves.
The UAE cares about energy consumption and the pavilion demonstrates its commitment to the principles of sustainable development. It has received a LEED Platinum certification — the highest rank in the world's most widely used rating system for green buildings. The UAE pavilion is surrounded on all sides by landscaped areas with plants.
The pavilion showcases real sand dunes and several interactive installations to tell the humble origins of the country, its meteoric rise and the future that lies ahead.
Real sands were brought specially for the EXPO from all over the United Arab Emirates.
The pavilion itself consists of six zones and includes such spaces as Oasis, Falaj, Desert of dreams, Generations, Dreaming together.
The UAE's pavilion theme is Dreamers Who Do, focusing on the opportunities available for dreamers to succeed.
There are art installations about the development of the state.

The Dubai World EXPO 2020 started on October 1, 2021 and will last till March 31, 2022. Originally scheduled for 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021, it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite being postponed, organizers kept the name Expo 2020 for marketing and branding purposes.
The World EXPO in Dubai is an event showcasing architecture, global culture and innovation that brings together participants from 192 countries and six continents.
To date, more than 20 million people visited EXPO 2020.
