Bishkek, Dec. 13, 2024. / Kabar /. Based on the relevant resolution of the United Nations General Assembly (UN), October 23 has been declared the International Snow Leopard Day, press secretary of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Askat Alogozov wrote on social networks.
He wrote that the UN supported the initiative of President Sadyr Zhaparov to establish the International Snow Leopard Day.
"This historic event underlines the global significance of Kyrgyzstan's efforts to preserve the unique nature of Central Asia. The snow leopard, a symbol of high-mountain ecosystems, now has its own day in the international calendar," he wrote.
In September of this year, at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, President Sadyr Zhaparov noted that the snow leopard had become a symbol of the region's sustainable development, and spoke in detail about Kyrgyzstan's efforts to preserve it.
In addition, last year, President Sadyr Zhaparov signed a decree "On recognizing the snow leopard as a national symbol of the Kyrgyz Republic."
"Dear compatriots, I urge you to appreciate and carefully preserve our unique nature, where the symbol of the highlands, the snow leopard, lives in the majestic mountains covered with eternal snow and ice," Alogozov said in a statement.
