Bishkek, May 6, 2021. / Kabar /. Daniyar Mukashev, Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, met with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet.
According to the press service of the Foreign Ministry, during the meeting, Mukashev informed the UN High Commissioner in detail about the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border and the current situation in the border regions of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Mukashev said that as a result of the conflict, 36 citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic were killed, the overwhelming majority of whom are civilians, including two children (5 and 12 years old), and about 180 people were injured. About 30 thousand people were forced to leave their places of residence; in addition residential buildings, buildings of educational institutions, infrastructure facilities of the country were destroyed.
At the same time, the permanent representative emphasized that the Kyrgyz side has never advocated the solution of border issues by military means and always prioritizes the peaceful settlement of disputes.
In turn, High Commissioner Bachelet expressed her sincere sympathy for the victims among the civilian population of Kyrgyzstan. She informed that the UNHCHR has been closely following the situation at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border from the very beginning.
In this context, Bachelet welcomed the efforts and actions of the Kyrgyz government to peacefully resolve the conflict and prevent further escalation of the conflict, and also assured the Kyrgyz side that OHCHR will closely monitor the situation on the border of the two states.
