UN ready to assist Kyrgyzstan in development of green economy

Bishkek, June 16, 2022. / Kabar /. Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov met with Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), Deputy Administrator of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Usha Rao-Monari, the press service of the Cabinet reported.

The Kyrgyz Cabinet chairman noted the commitment of the country's leadership to the Sustainable Development Goals, taking into account the national priorities and interests of Kyrgyzstan, adding that these goals are reflected in the new strategic document - the National State Development Program until 2026.

During the negotiations, Akylbek Zhaparov focused on priority areas, including the development of digital technologies, creative economy and green economy.

“With over half of our six million population under the age of 25, the president of the Kyrgyz Republic has declared it a national goal to improve education and health care for children and youth. The implementation of this goal has started with an increase in the salaries of school teachers by at least 80%. We are starting an active campaign to recruit and train a new generation of highly professional teachers of exact sciences, mathematics, information technology and foreign languages,” said Akylbek Zhaparov.

In turn, Usha Rao-Monari noted her readiness to provide support and assistance to Kyrgyzstan in the development of a green economy, low-carbon transformation, protection and conservation of biodiversity and other aspects aimed at human development.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Second Regional Summit on the Sustainable Development Goals “Beyond COVID - Towards a Just Recovery in Central Asia” in Almaty (Kazakhstan).
