At the 15th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Deputy Minister of Labour, Social Security and Migration Janyl Alybaeva informed about how the rights of persons with disabilities are protected in Kyrgyzstan, the Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Migration reported.
“Like all over the world, the number of people with disabilities in Kyrgyzstan is growing every year. Today there are 200,000 of them, 35,000 of them are children. Reaffirming our commitment to the goals and objectives of the UN in relation to persons with disabilities, our country is taking measures to create an accessible environment,” Alybayeva said.
She also noted that since 2019, payment for the services of a personal assistant for special children has been introduced. In June this year, this service is provided not only to children, but also to adults with disabilities from childhood of group I.
“Since October last year, there has been a threefold increase in various payments, including for children and adults with disabilities. The allowances were increased to 100%, and the amount of food in state institutions where children and adults with disabilities live was also doubled,” the deputy minister said.
She added that in Kyrgyzstan, disability-related solutions are developed jointly with citizens with special needs. Since 2020, the Council for Persons with Disabilities has been operating under the government.
