UN Women in Kyrgyzstan provides assistance to vulnerable groups of women and girls in regions

Bishkek, May 18, 2020 / Kabar/. The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women) in Kyrgyzstan provided humanitarian assistance in the form of hygiene kits for vulnerable groups of women and girls in the regions.

A period of self-isolation is particularly difficult for economically inactive women or families with low incomes. The crisis leads to an increase in the need for personal hygiene and disinfection products, as well as remedies that are difficult for families with limited incomes to obtain.

The humanitarian aid in the form of basic hygiene kits contains napkins, sanitary pads, soap, powder, disinfectants, sanitizers, personal protective equipment and more. In total, more than 700 women in 27 communities across Kyrgyzstan received assistance.

“State, commercial and other organizations providing assistance to vulnerable families mainly provide assistance in the form of grocery packages, and the specific needs of women very often remain in the background. These kits give women and their families the opportunity to use their limited funds to purchase other vital resources to meet basic needs,” said Ulziisuren Jamsran, representative of UN Women in Kyrgyzstan.

Also at the initiative and request of women leaders in April, assistance was provided in the form of protective equipment (masks, sanitizers, gloves), soap detergents, children's and adult diapers and thermometers.
