UNDP hands over election equipment to Kyrgyzstan’s CEC

Bishkek, Sept. 23, 2020 /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan’s Central Commission for Elections and Referendum received IT equipment from UNDP as part of the project to support elections, the press service of the Commission reported Wednesday.

The ceremony of handing over IT-equipment was attended by UNDP Resident Representative in Kyrgyzstan Louise Chamberlain, Ambassador of Japan to Kyrgyzstan Maeda Shigeki, Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurzhan Shaildabekova and Head of the State Registration Service under the Kyrgyz Government Akyn Mambetaliyev.

During the ceremony, the CEC head noted the importance of this equipment for electoral processes.

“Modernization of the electoral equipment is one of the main parts of the strategy to improve the electoral law and process. Thanks to this, the electoral process becomes transparent and open. Credibility of elections is the basis for peaceful elections," Nurzhan Shaildabekova said.

The head of Registration Service noted the relevance of UNDP support to the electoral process in terms of digitalization.

"Eradicating the human factor causes more public confidence in the process itself. We will be able to use this equipment by implementing digitalization in the regions. These elections should become the next step in strengthening the trust of citizens in the electoral system and the IT-technologies applied," said Akyn Mambetaliyev.

Kyrgyzstan’s parliamentary elections are scheduled for Oct. 4, 2020.
