Bishkek, June 27, 2018 / Kabar /. The indicators of maternal mortality in Kyrgyzstan remain high, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) reported on the results of a round-table meeting in Bishkek devoted to improving maternal health in the country.
The meeting of experts was organized by the Ministry of Health, UNFPA, German Technical Cooperation (GIZ) and the Kyrgyz Family Planning Alliance.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Health, in Kyrgyzstan, maternal mortality for 2017 was 31.3 per 100,000 live births. Protection of motherhood and childhood is one of the priority directions of the state policy of the republic, since the level of medical care for pregnant women and women in childbirth determines the fate and health of future generations.
It is reported that Kyrgyzstan is one of the 189 countries that have undertaken to implement the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, where one of the important indicators is the reduction of maternal mortality.
Also, national experts develop a plan for implementing the priority recommendations of the second report of the confidential investigation of maternal mortality. The second report was the result of a two-year joint work of the National Committee for the Confidential Investigation of Maternal Mortality Cases, local coordinators for the confidential investigation of maternal mortality, obstetrician-gynecologists, anesthesiologists-resuscitators, midwives, surgeons, pathologists and anyone who was involved in the process of providing medical care to deceased women.
The Parliament, Government of Kyrgyzstan together with other development partners, is ready to make every effort to achieve concrete and measurable results to improve maternal health in our country and to promote the implementation of the recommendations of the second report of the confidential investigation of maternal mortality.
