BISHKEK, Sept. 17, 2018 / Kabar/. UNICEF is concerned with recent information in media on a few cases of alleged trafficking in newborns in health facilities and sale of children in residential institutions in the city of Bishkek. Child trafficking and sale of children are one of the most serious violations of their rights. UNICEF calls on relevant authorities in the Kyrgyz Republic to take all necessary measures to investigate every potential case according to the legislation and prevent them in the future.
Earlier, media reported that on Sept. 7, doctors were detained in Bishkek, who were engaged in the sale of newborn babies on the territory of a hospital. The doctors told parents that their children died and used the bodies of already dead children.
The Ministry of Health reported that a specially created commission is working on this issue.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs told Kabar Agency on the detention of suspected medics. A criminal case was opened on the article "Trafficking in Persons".
