Bishkek, Oct. 2, 2018. /Kabar/. The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) passes water-sanitary equipment worth more than $15 000 to the Emergencies Ministry in Kyrgyzstan to enhance the capacity to respond to natural disasters.
Thus, the UNICEF participates in the disaster risk reduction month’s campaign announced in Kyrgyzstan from September 5 to October 5, 2018.
During disasters, one of the priorities is to provide victims with clean drinking water and sanitation in order to avoid outbreaks and the spread of infectious diseases, the UNICEF office in Kyrgyzstan reported.
Water and sanitary equipment includes water purification installations, structures for latrines, tanks for storing and transporting water.
According to international standards, the minimum water consumption is 7.5 liters per person per day during first aid, then as the aid increases, the standard should rise to 15 liters. Water equipment cleans up to 4 000 liters of water per hour, thereby providing clean drinking water to more than 20 thousand people per day.
These days, a disaster risk reduction month’s campaign is taking place in Osh. The UNICEF, together with the Nur cinema, organizes a free screening of the Kermet Koch series on safe behavior during emergencies, as well as on climate change. These series were filmed with the financing of the Japanese Government.
