Bishkek, May 6, 2020 / Kabar /. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed the allocation of an additional USD 1.38 million to support Kyrgyzstan in combating the ongoing outbreak of COVID-19, the US Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
The CDC pledged a total of USD 6.8 million to Central Asian countries.
The CDC, the leading US public health agency, has a long history of collaborating with Central Asian governments on public health issues. The CDC offices in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, together with the ministry of health of each country, are working to strengthen local laboratories, disease surveillance and human resources so that countries can better prevent, detect and respond to disease outbreaks, the report said.
The embassy noted that Kyrgyzstan is one of the countries that the United States prioritized to assist in the fight against COVID-19 in the form of providing USD 913 thousand from USAID, and now USD 1.38 million from CDC.
