Bishkek, Feb. 9, 2022 . / Kabar / . The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced a new $19 million project to improve trade connectivity in Central Asia. The five-year Trade Central Asia activity will be implemented in Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. the U.S. Embassy in Kyrgyzstan reported.
The goal of the project is to expand economic opportunities in Central Asia through the harmonization of customs and border procedures, increasing public-private dialogue on trade and investment, and improving cross-border connectivity among businesses.
In the Kyrgyz Republic, Trade Central Asia will collaborate with the Ministry of the Economy and Commerce, the Ministry of Transport and Communication, State Customs Service under the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic.
"Trade is vital for strong economic growth and job creation. The Government of the Kyrgyz Republic has taken many positive steps towards trade promotion and cooperation with its neighbors. We hope that building on these successes, we can continue our cooperation as part of this new project and create more trade opportunities for the people of the Kyrgyz Republic”, noted USAID/Kyrgyz Republic Acting Mission Director Keith Simmons.
The project will work to enhance export-related services such as certification, finance, transport, and logistics. It will also organize buyer missions, trade events, and marketing support so that Central Asian firms learn more about and meet buyers’ requirements, enabling Kyrgyz and other Central Asian firms to open new markets.
According to the head of the customs policy department of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, Ruslan Tynaliev, this new project can help improve trade by simplifying procedures. “This can have an immediate effect on trading companies by saving time and optimizing the government regulatory processes.”
