Uzbek and U.S. delegations pursue negotiations in Tashkent

Tashkent, Feb.3, 2020. /Kabar/. Uzbekistan’s capital city of Tashkent is hosting negotiations between the Uzbek and U.S. delegations, Dunyo News Agency reported.

The Uzbek delegation is headed by Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov, while the U.S. delegation is led by Secretary of State Michael Pompeo.

The sides are discussing the implementation of agreements, reached within the Uzbekistan-American Summit in May 2018, and exchanging views on topical issues of international importance.

Note that U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo has arrived in Uzbekistan the day before for official visit.

In the afternoon, a ministerial meeting in the “Central Asia and the United States" (C5 + 1) format will be held in the Uzbek capital.

Earlier, the US top diplomat visited Minsk and Nur-Sultan where he had talks with Presidents Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan and his Belarusian and Kazakh counterparts, Vladimir Makey and Mukhtar Tleuberdi.

The C5+1 (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and the United States) multilateral forum was established in November 2015 at a ministerial meeting in Samarkand with a goal of expanding intra-regional cooperation and Central Asia’s relations with the United States.
