Uzbek scientists working on test system to detect ‘British strain’ of COVID-19

Tashkent, Jan. 26, 2021. /Kabar/. Uzbek scientists are working on the creation of a test system to detect the "British strain" COVID-19. It became known after talks of First Deputy Minister of Innovative Development of Uzbekistan Shahlo Turdikulova with Charge d'Affaires of Japan in Uzbekistan Atsushi Suda, the press service of the ministry reported.

According to Turdikulova, the Center of Advanced Technologies under the Innovative Development Ministry has begun developing and producing PCR test systems, and scientists from the center are working on a test system to detect the "British strain" of the COVID-19 virus.

"We are ready to cooperate with research organizations and companies in Japan in this field," she noted.

Currently, nearly 10,000 people in Uzbekistan have taken part in trials of the ZF 2001Chinese coronavirus vaccine produced by Anhui Zhifei Loncom Biofharmaceutical. Of these, more than 4,200 volunteers received the first dose of the vaccine and over 250 received the second dose.

Uzbekistan’s tally of infections has reached 78,429. Of these, 76,862 or 98% have recovered, while 621 people have passed away. 946 peatients are undergoing treatment.
