Tashkent, Jan. 25, 2022 . / Kabar /. Since Jan. 25 this year, by the decision of the Special Republican Commission on Combating Coronavirus of Uzbekistan mandatory rapid testing at entry into the country was canceled, the Health Ministry’s press service said.
The cancellation applies to all forms of transport - international airports, railway stations and border crossings.
Since Jan. 15, Uzbekistan introduced mandatory COVID-19 testing for all entrants. The cost of the test was $5. This decision caused large queues at the Tashkent airport, where the necessary conditions could not be created in time.
Many Uzbekistanis were angered by the very fact that the authorities made this decision, since all of the passengers who arrived already have a negative PCR test, and it was unclear why they should also undergo express testing on arrival. The Ministry of Health argued that even among passengers with a negative PCR test people with coronavirus are identified.
Thus, on Jan. 15, the first day after the new requirement was introduced, coronavirus was detected in 67 out of 3,801 passengers arriving in Tashkent, despite the fact that they had a negative PCR test result. A total of 1,541 people arrived at border checkpoints that day, and coronavirus was confirmed in 151 of them.
