Bishkek, Dec. 27, 2018. / Kabar /. Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan opened on December 25, the work of the Ak-Tash (Kyrgyzstan) - Birlishken (Uz) checkpoint, which has not worked for more than five years, the Podrobno.uz portal said.
It is used for the free passage of the inhabitants of the Kyrgyz exclave of Barak to the territory of Kyrgyzstan.
An agreement on this was reached on December 18 during negotiations between the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev and Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, which were held in frames of the second meeting of the Council of Heads of Border Oblasts of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
The Ak-Tash checkpoint is located on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek section of the state border and connects Barak exclave with the Kara-Suu district of Osh oblast. The Ak-Tash checkpoint temporarily stopped the passage of residents of the Kyrgyz village of Barak in spring of 2013.
From 2013 to 2015, the State Border Service of Kyrgyzstan, in agreement with the Uzbek side, continued to deliver food, medical supplies, fuel and lubricants, seeds, fertilizers and other goods to the village.
Earlier, residents of Barak exclave were forced to cross the state border in order to travel to the main territory of Kyrgyzstan through the Kyzyl-Kiya-road checkpoint, which was about 150 km. In order to get to the city of Osh, it was necessary to drive about 300 km in total. Now through the Ak-Tash checkpoint to travel to the main territory of the country, it will be necessary to overcome a little more than 1 km.
Check points will function daily from 9 am to 19 pm. In case of emergency situations, citizens can pass around the clock.
