Tashkent, May 3, 2020. /Kabar/. A criminal case has been initiated in Uzbekistan over the collapse of the Sardoba reservoir dam, the press service of the Uzbek Prosecutor General's Office said.
"A criminal case was initiated in accordance with the relevant articles of the Criminal Code on the fact of flooding, caused by the collapse of the Sardoba dam in Syrdarya region on May 1. The State Security Service (SSB) of Uzbekistan is in charge of conducting investigative actions in the criminal case," the report says.
In the morning of May 1, one of the dams of Sardoba reservoir in Syrdarya region had burst.
56 people were hospitalized, about 70 thousand people were evacuated to safe areas, 20 people were rescued from the roof of houses and trees, there were no victims.
Several settlements were flooded, roads and agricultural lands were damaged.
The Sardoba water reservoir was built in 2017 and has a capacity of 922 million cubic meters of water. Over 10 local Uzbek companies were involved in its construction.
