Tashkent, Oct.10, 2019. /Kabar/. Uzbekistan will not cease raw cotton from 2020, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Sardor Umirzakov said in an interview with the Nikkei Asian Review Japanese publication, Uzbek media reported.
According to him, the country has created facilities for processing and production with added value for this purpose. He pointed out that there are enough markets, and also said that this year it is planned to export textile products for $2 billion, and by 2025 - to bring this amount to $ 8 billion.
“Expansion of exports of value-added products is part of the strategy to protect the country from global pressure, in particular, the trade war between the U.S. and China," the minister said.
Uzbekistan has in recent years begun to move away from a strategy of large quantities of cotton supply. In 2018 President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for the first time said from now Uzbekistan will export less cotton abroad, process it domestically and produce value-added products.
