Uzbekistan launches production of Volkswagen cars

Tashkent, June 26, 2020./Kabar/. Uzbekistan will launch production of light commercial vehicles Volkswagen, Uzbekistan-24 information program reported.

The production of German cars in Uzbekistan will be developed in two stages. At the first stage, in 2020-2021, ready-made cars will be imported, a dealer and service network will be created in Uzbekistan's Ferghana and Dzhizak Oblasts. Employees of the Dzhizak Automobile Plant will undergo the necessary training in CKD assembly and quality control.

By Nov. 1, 2021, a special investment agreement will be concluded on the transition to the second stage of the project. It will contain parameters for organizing a full production cycle (CKD), making investments in the amount of at least 30% of the existing assets of the enterprise, and determining exclusive rights to external sales markets.

According to Oybek Ayubov, Director General of the Dzhizak Automobile Plant, the second stage involves the creation of a full production cycle, which includes welding, painting, assembly processes, expansion of the dealer network in all regions of the country.

“Volkswagen cars that will be sold by the plant to be offered with a guarantee of two to three years without a mileage limit,” he said.

Last year, 18 thousand light commercial vehicles worth USD 132 million were imported to Uzbekistan.

In March of this year, ''Uzavtosanoat'' and ''Volkswagen group Rus'' signed a cooperation agreement to organize the production of light commercial vehicle on the basis of the Dzhizak automobile plant.
