Tashkent, Nov.12, 2019. /Kabar/. Uzbekistan has lost its position among the top three world leaders in terms of persimmon exports in 2018, yielding it to China, Kun.uz reported citing information from EastFruit.
In total, in one year, exports of persimmon from Uzbekistan amounted to 55 thousand tons, which is 18 thousand tons less than in 2017. Despite the fact that China has also reduced the volume of persimmon exports, it managed to surpass Uzbekistan in the export rating.
Uzbekistan was supplying all its persimmon to the markets of Kazakhstan and Russia. Significantly lower volumes were also exported to Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan.
At the same time, persimmon shipments from Uzbekistan to Belarus and Ukraine have increased significantly. Exports to Belarus have more than tripled to 763 tons, while exports to Ukraine have doubled to 593 tons. A trial batch of Uzbek persimmon was also delivered to the UAE market.
Spain and Azerbaijan were remaining the world leaders in the export of persimmon, having exported 168.3 thousand tons and 150.9 thousand tons of these fruits respectively in 2018.
Georgia, Tajikistan and Armenia were also among the top twenty world leaders in terms of persimmon exports from the region. All of these countries increased their exports.
International trade in persimmon is about 600-700 thousand tons annually for the amount of $500-$600 million. Russia is the world's largest importer with a huge gap from other countries. Every year this country imports more than 160 thousand tons of persimmon for $130 million.
The second place is occupied by Germany, and the third - by Kazakhstan, which mainly re-exports persimmon. Ukraine, France, Italy, Belarus, Lithuania, Thailand and Poland are also among leaders.
