Bishkek, Sept. 5, 2017 / Kabar /. "Observing your progressive reforms, both economic and political, I am increasingly convinced that Uzbekistan will become not only a geographical center of Central Asia, but also an economic and commercial one," Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev said during a meeting with Uzbek leader Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Bishkek.
Atambayev recalled that Uzbekistan borders with all countries of Central Asia.
"Today's meeting opens a new era in the relations of the two fraternal countries. In less than a year of your presidency, you radically improved relations with all neighboring republics, and this had a beneficial effect on the overall political situation in Central Asia," he said.
The Kyrgyz President recalled that once Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan were one state - the Kokand Khanate, and until 1991 there were no borders between the two countries.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that the people do not believe that they can again travel to Andijan or Osh as before, without hindrance.
"We are obliged to translate into reality the desire of our peoples. We must make sure that they meet and trade together. The most important thing, as I said, we should not interfere," he said.
Also, the President of a neighboring country handed Atambayev a book by Chyngyz Aitmatov, which was translated into the Uzbek language.
