Tashkent, Feb.13, 2020. /Kabar/. Uzbekistan will hold tenders to attract foreign companies to manage its airports, Minister of Transport of the republic Elyor Ganiyev said on Wednesday at the press conference.
"I want to say unambiguously that this process will be carried out on a tender basis. It is early to say that Japanese or Russian companies will manage our airports. The tender will show," the minister said.
He also confirmed the intention was to conclude contracts directly with the Russian Novaport company.
“But our position is unequivocal - we will do it on a tender basis," said Ganiyev.
Russia’s Novaport planned to take control over the management of airports of Samarkand, Namangan and Urgench, renovating them. In this case, the company wanted to get the airports in concession for 30 years.
Japanese Sumitomo Corporation and Russia's Airports of Regions Holding, part of Renova Group are also interested in Uzbekistan’s airports
The transport minister of Uzbekistan noted cooperation with foreign management companies on Uzbekistan's airports will be carried out on the principles of public-private partnership or concession.
