Tashkent, April 2, 2021 . / Kabar / . Central Asia’s largest wind farm will be built in Zarafshan district of Navoi Province of Uzbekistan. A new agreement was signed on the eve between Masdar (UAE) and the Government of Uzbekistan, the press service of the republic’s Energy Ministry said on Friday.
Agreements on the development, construction and operation of wind farm with capacity of 500 MW in Zarafshan district of Navoi Province were signed between Masdar and the Government of Uzbekistan in 2020. The amount of foreign direct investments will be more than $600 million.
According to the new document, Masdar has decided to triple the design capacity of the wind farm under construction in Uzbekistan to 1.5 GW, which will further help the country meet its goals of generating up to 3 GW of energy from wind farms by 2030.
According to the Uzbek Ministry of Energy, the 500MW wind farm in Navoi Province will be put into commercial operation by the end of 2024. It will be able to power 500,000 homes and help prevent the emission of up to 1.1 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere per year.
Emirati Masdar currently operates in more than 30 countries, including the UAE, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Morocco, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Spain, Serbia, Uzbekistan and others.
