Tashkent, Jan.27, 2020. /Kabar/. The delegation of Uzbekistan, headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulaziz Kamilov, will participate in the international conference on presentation of the “Green Central Asia” regional initiative, to be held on Jan.27-30, 2020 in Berlin, Germany, the press service of the Uzbek MFA reported.
Climate change poses a growing security risk in Central Asia and Afghanistan, where it has a particularly severe impact on glaciers and natural resources such as water, land and soil.
This has consequences for food security and affects migrant flows and the stability of the region as a whole. As part of a preventive and stabilizing foreign policy, the Federal Foreign Office will launch Green Central Asia, a regional initiative on climate and security in the region on Jan.28, 2020.
The aim of the initiative is to support a dialogue in the region on climate change and the risks associated with it, thus fostering regional integration between the six countries involved. In particular, it aims to create better access to information and risk analyses to enable countries to assess the impact of climate change more accurately and to take preventive measures.
The Uzbek delegation will also hold a number of bilateral meetings during its working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany.
