Bishkek, July 7, 2020. / Kabar /. Uzbekistan may launch the production of a new drug “Covipir” against the coronavirus infection based on favipiravir, the press service of the Agency for the Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry of Uzbekistan reported.
Director of quality of the pharmaceutical company Nobel Pharmsanoat Shamshod Sharipov said that the patent for this drug belongs to the Japanese company Toyama Chemical.
“It has been proven that this drug has a wide spectrum of action against viruses that keeps RNA (flu, rhinovirus, respiratory viruses, etc.), and has a positive anticoronavirus effect. It has been used in Japan from February 2020 to treat patients with coronavirus. Starting this month, the Chinese company Zhejiang Hisun Pharmaceutical has begun producing it under the brand name “Favilavir”. And the production of Avifavir will be launched in Russia in May by KhimRar and the Russian Investment Fund,” Sharipov said.
It is noted that the drug "Covipir" will be primarily produced for the needs of Uzbekistan.
