Tashkent, Sept. 23, 2024. /Kabar/. The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Uzbekistan has registered 141 ethnic Kyrgyz as candidates for the Uzbek Legislative Chamber and local Kengashes.
The press service of the Election Commission reported that 29,350 people have been registered as candidates for deputies at all levels. Candidates for the Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan and local Kengashes are 973 Tajiks, 588 Kazakhs, 146 Turkmens, 141 Kyrgyz, 67 Russians and representatives of other nationalities.
“Uzbekistan's elections provided equal opportunities for candidates of all nationalities and people with disabilities, and approved lists from five political parties,” the report said.
This year's elections in Uzbekistan will be held on Oct. 27 under a mixed system, based on a majoritarian and proportional system. According to this system, 75 of the 150 deputies are elected from single-mandate constituencies, with the remaining 75 elected on the basis of candidates nominated by political parties.
Five political parties have nominated candidates in single-mandate constituencies: the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan - Movement of Entrepreneurs and Business People (UzLiDeP), the Milliy Tiklanish (National Revival) Democratic Party, the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan, the People's Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (PDPU) and the Adolat (Justice) Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan.
Campaigning for the candidates started on Sept. 22.
