Uzbekistan's gold and foreign currency reserves exceed USD 35B

Tashkent, June 9, 2021 . / Kabar / . As of June 1, the volume of gross foreign exchange reserves of Uzbekistan has amounted to $35.5 billion, having increased by $1.3 billion for a month, the website of the republic’s Central Bank reported.

This is the highest figure ever recorded for the gold and foreign currency reserves of the republic. The previous record high was reached at the end of 2020 - on Dec. 1, the reserves of the Central Bank reached $34.9 billion.

However, since April the precious metal began to rise in price again, which led to the growth of gold reserves. If by the end of March gold was worth less than $ 1700, by the end of May its quotations broke through the mark of $ 1,900. In June it began to fall in price and at the moment of publication it is trading at the level of $1,893 dollars.

The volume of gold in the structure of gold reserves has been growing since September - from 9.6 to 11.7 million troy ounces, but in May the gold in reserves became less by 0.4 million troy ounces (about 12.4 tons).

Earlier, head of the Central Bank Mamarizo Nurmuratov said that expensive gold during the pandemic has brought the country's economy an additional UZS 24 trillion.

Uzbekistan last sold gold in August, when it recorded the highest exchange price of gold ever - $2,069.5.

The value of reserves in gold increased by $745.7 million, in foreign currency - by $579 million.
