V report on elimination of all forms of discrimination against women prepared in Kyrgyzstan

An inter-ministerial working group is developing the Fifth Periodic Report of Kyrgyzstan on the implementation of the norms of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, the press service of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development reported.

The ministry reported that according to Article 18 of the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, all states-parties to the Convention undertake to submit a country report on the implementation of the Convention every four years. In order to prepare the fifth periodic report of the Kyrgyz Republic on the implementation of the norms of the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, an inter-ministerial working group was established, comprising accountable officers working on gender issues from 25 ministries and departments, independent experts and consultants. The coordinating body for this process is the Gender Department of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development of the Kyrgyz Republic led by head of the department Bekmatova.

The third working meeting of this interdepartmental working group was held on October 31 with the support of the regional offices of UNDP and the UN Women, together with the Gender Department of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development of the Kyrgyz Republic. Following the meeting, a draft of the fifth periodic report will be submitted, which, after approval by the decree of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, will be sent to the UN Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.
