Vice Prime Minister Askarov takes part in World Green Economy Summit

Bishkek, Oct. 25, 2018. /Kabar/. Vice Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Zamirbek Askarov took part in the World Green Economy Summit, which was held in Dubai (United Arab Emirates).

Askarov informed the participants of the event about the measures to introduce the principles of green economy in the Kyrgyz Republic and called on the parties to cooperate, the press service of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

“The Kyrgyz Republic recognizes the importance of green economy, and maintains effective work and dialogue with partners to share experience and information, jointly discuss problems, and make recommendations for the further promotion of the principles of green economy. Our republic is taking active steps in this direction, as evidenced by the membership in the Partnership Initiative for actions for green economy,” the Vice Prime Minister said.

He said that in June 2018, the Jogorku Kenesh adopted the Concept “Kyrgyzstan is a country of green economy”, which defines the vision and the need for the development of “green economy” in the country.

“Today we are actively working to create an appropriate legislative framework for the adaptation of the economy to the transition to a green economy. The practice of introducing and supporting green technologies aimed at creating resource-saving and energy-saving industries is being studied. In turn, the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, in accordance with international experience and the Concept adopted by the Parliament, is developing a five-year program for the transition to a green economy,” Askarov said.

The Vice Prime Minister noted that the proposed document is aimed at achieving sustainable development, ensuring improvements in the quality of human life, social justice, more efficient use of resources and the widespread use of environmental clean technologies and innovations in the transition to a “green economy”. One of the practical steps of the government in this direction is the creation of the Center for Climate Financing of the Kyrgyz Republic,” he concluded.

As part of his participation in the World Green Economy Summit, Askarov visited the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Sharjah, where he familiarized himself with samples of goods and products presented.

During the meeting, Askarov informed about potential business projects in the Kyrgyz Republic and called the side for the revitalization of the cooperation. Following the meeting, the parties agreed to provide each other with the necessary information to work out promising and potential projects.

After that, the Vice Prime Minister visited the free economic zone of the city of Sharjah and got acquainted with the activities of the Business Service Center. During the meeting, an agreement was reached on further cooperation and studying the experience of this FEZ.

The organizers of the World Green Economy Summit are the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation and the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.
