Kyrgyzstan celebrated the 77th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War on May 9.
Various actions took place throughout the country, including the international one - The Immortal Regiment. This is the first year in Kyrgyzstan when Victory Day has been celebrated on a large scale since the start of the pandemic. The last time a major celebration was in 2019. During this time there have been many changes both in the country and in the world. One thing has remained unchanged - the memory of the heroes who fought shoulder to shoulder against the Nazis.
Various events dedicated to the Victory Day began earlier than May 9. A rally of representatives of the public association "Republican Council of War Veterans, Armed Forces, Law Enforcement Agencies and Home Front Workers" under the motto Songs of Victory took place on May 5, 2022. The event participants laid flowers at the monuments to the Heroes of the Soviet Union Kalyinur Usenbekov, Duishenkul Shopokov and those who died during the Great Patriotic War, and honored the memory of the heroes who fell in the battles of the Second World War with a minute of silence.
In addition, financial assistance was provided to veterans. 504 people are registered in Bishkek’s department of social development. They received KGS 100 thousand each. The same categories received KGS 15,000 from the city budget through post offices. KGS 10 thousand from the city budget were paid to home front workers, widows of war veterans and families of fallen soldiers. Also, one-time financial assistance was provided from the funds of the capital's administrations. Thus, KGS 10 thousand were allocated to participants of the war, war veterans, underage prisoners of concentration camps and blockade of Leningrad and KGS 5,000 for home front workers and KGS 3,000 for widows of participants, war veterans and families of those killed in the war. In addition, 196 veterans and home front workers received food packages.
The leaders of other countries also congratulated Kyrgyzstan on the Victory Day.
“This sacred day is forever inscribed in history as a symbol of an unparalleled feat, exceptional stamina and courage of our peoples who saved the world from fascism. I am sure that the glorious traditions of brotherhood and mutual assistance will continue to be a reliable basis for friendship, good neighborliness and strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. I convey to all the veterans and home front workers of Kyrgyzstan the words of deep gratitude,” said President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokaev in his congratulation letter.
Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, in his congratulation, noted that in the harsh years of the war, the peoples of our countries shoulder to shoulder forged this victory on the battlefields and in the rear.
“The bright memory of the glorious feat of our ancestors, accomplished in the name of peace, freedom and a happy future for future generations, will forever remain in the hearts. I am sure that the relations of friendship and good-neighbourliness between our states will continue to fruitfully develop in line with the common interests of the parties,” the head of the neighboring state says in his congratulation. The Tajik president also wished good health and prosperity to Sadyr Zhaparov, and peace, stability and further progress to the fraternal people of Kyrgyzstan.
Russian President Vladimir Putin extended his congratulations to President Sadyr Zhaparov and the people of the Kyrgyz Republic on the 77th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
“On this significant day, with boundless gratitude and pride, we recall the exploits of our fathers and grandfathers, who bravely fought against the fascist invaders at the front and selflessly worked in the rear in the name of the common Victory. I am sure that the traditions of friendship and mutual assistance, hardened during the difficult war years, will continue to serve the development of Russian-Kyrgyz relations in the spirit of alliance and strategic partnership,” the Russian president’s congratulatory message says.
The traditional Immortal Regiment has held on May 9 in Kyrgyzstan after a two-year break. The participants of the action laid flowers at the Eternal Flame and honored the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.
President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov took part in the requiem on Victory Square. The head of state laid flowers at the Eternal Flame and honored the memory of those who died in the Great Patriotic War with a minute of silence.
“This year we mark the 77th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Victory Day is a national holiday that has become a symbol of military prowess, courage and glory. On this day, with a special sense of respect, we remember the unprecedented feat of our fathers and grandfathers, who bravely fought on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War and selflessly worked in the rear for the Great Victory, peaceful life and freedom of future generations. The names of Kyrgyz soldiers are inscribed in golden letters in the history of the Great Patriotic War. The eternal memory of their great feat will forever remain in our hearts and will inspire us to new achievements in the name of the further development of our beloved Motherland. We bow our heads before the veterans, pay tribute to the memory of the fallen in battles and express our gratitude to the home front workers. We have no right to forget those to whom we owe our lives and our freedom,” the president said in his address.
Zhaparov also added that more than 360,000 Kyrgyzstanis took part in this war, of which over 150,000 received high state awards for their courage and heroism, including 22 fellow countrymen became full holders of the Order of Glory, and 77 became Heroes of the Soviet Union. Unfortunately, more than 100,000 Kyrgyzstanis died and went missing during the Great Patriotic War.
“Years will pass, but the names of our countrymen, heroic soldiers, all those who gave their lives in the name of saving humanity from fascism, in the name of the happiness of their native country and all peoples on earth will never be forgotten. Unfortunately, every year the ranks of our dear veterans, those who know the price of a real Victory, are thinning. Surrounding them with attention and care not only on holidays, but also in everyday life is our duty and obligation. A low bow to all of you for your heroism at the front, for your labor achievements in the rear,” President Zhaparov added.
