Victory over extremism and terrorism can be won only through cooperation - Kanimetov

Bishkek, Dec. 6, 2018. /Kabar/. The victory over extremism and terrorism can be won only through mutual cooperation of countries, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Mirlan Kanimetov told during an international forum on “Preventing Violent Extremism and the Role of Media”.

He said that such an acute issue as extremism and terrorism, as well as the role of the media are being discussed.

“It is impossible for one country alone to fight this problem, as the problem is transnational in nature. Today, extremist organizations are developing mechanisms to sow fear among people. And here the media play an important role. It must be remembered that the footage of wars, demonstrations of children with weapons show their power, strength and journalists need to properly present such materials so that they are not propaganda and do not cause people to have a sense of fear,” the Deputy Minister said.

He further added that it is necessary to organize special training courses for CIS journalists in order to teach the media to cover such a delicate topic. In this area, everyone should jointly act against the extremist trend.

“Victory can be won only through cooperation,” Kanimetov concluded.
