Osh, March 10, 2021 . / Kabar /. A meeting was held with residents of Tokoi and Alysh villages of Kadamjay region of Kyrgyzstan’s Batken Oblast on the CASA-1000 project.
It was also attended by representatives of the National Energy Holding, Batken Oblast state administration, the State Inspection on Ecological and Technical Security and other representatives of stat bodies.
During the meeting the population was informed in detail about the CASA-1000 project and the CASA-1000 community support project. Local residents asked questions about the project's impact on their health and the smooth running of their households.
In turn, representatives of state bodies responded that households are allowed, provided that the protective zone of power lines is not violated. During the construction of power lines and the laying of high-voltage power lines, all established sanitary protection norms and international standards are strictly observed.
Villages located within 1.5 km of the power transmission line will receive grants to improve power supply and village infrastructure. It is planned to finance 30 facilities selected on a competitive basis with the participation of local communities. The total amount of funding for the community support project is estimated at $11 million.
The Central Asia-South Asia power project, commonly known by the acronym CASA-1000, is a $1.16 billion project currently under construction that will allow for the export of surplus hydroelectricity from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Groundbreaking for the project took place in May 2016 by leaders of the four nations.
The project is expected to be completed in 2023.
