Bishkek, Dec. 14, 2020 / Kabar /. SCO Secretary General Vladimir Norov held a briefing today where he shared the results of the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the SCO member states.
During the conference, Norov recalled a number of important events that took place in the past year. He also touched upon the fight against coronavirus, getting out of economic difficulties in the post-pandemic period and about the chairmanship of India.
“It was noted that India is ready to raise cooperation to a new level. As part of its chairmanship, it was proposed to create a new working group, as India has great digital potential. A startup festival was held, which showed the interest of young people in this. Also in September, India initiated a seminar on traditional medicine, including the fight against coronavirus. This event was timely and highly relevant. In general, it must be said that India, as a member of the SCO, has shown great success and great potential,” Norov said.
The SCO Secretary General also spoke about the successful work of the consortium, during which they agreed to work in 6 areas. This should have a beneficial effect on countries' recovery from the economic crisis after the coronavirus pandemic. In addition, he noted that this year, trade within the SCO has significantly decreased during the pandemic.
“Askar Mamin noted that the current pandemic has shown weak points. Taking into account the identified factors of instability, Mamin urged his colleagues to explore the possibilities for increasing the volume of trade. The Kazakh side also drew attention to the need to reset some mechanisms, for example, to increase the share of national currencies. It should be noted that the leadership of Kyrgyzstan expressed an opinion during the summit on the need to accelerate the construction of the railway. There were also other proposals for the construction of road routes,” Norov added.
