Voter turnout in parliamentary elections approaches 30%, says CEC of Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Nov. 28, 2021. / Kabar / . As of 6:00 p.m., 1,050,163 out of 3,703,420 voters had voted in the elections to the Jogorku Kenesh of Kyrgyzstan, Deputy Chairman of the republic’s CEC Tynchtyk Shainazarov told during a briefing.

He noted that turnout in a single constituency was 28.36% of the total number of voters, while in single-mandate constituency 1 million 37 thousand 373 voters voted, or 28.66% of the total.

The parliamentary elections are being held in Kyrgyzstan by using a mixed electoral system. 54 deputies are to be elected according to the proportional system in single electoral constituencies, while 36 deputies are to be elected from single-mandate constituencies on a majority basis.

Earlier the parliament of Kyrgyzstan consisted of 120 deputies elected for a five-year term according to party lists.
