Bishkek, Feb. 9, 2022 . / Kabar /. An opening of a new waiting room was held on Wednesday at the Issyk-Kul International Airport. The waiting room was built to increase passenger traffic and create a comfortable environment for passengers, accompanying and greeting persons.
The press service of the Manas International Airport (MIA) reported that the construction of the facility began on Oct. 7, 2021. The total area of the building is 372 square meters. The waiting room has a mother and child room, there are also conditions for people with disabilities.
The opening ceremony was attended by First Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan Almaz Turgunbaev, Presidential Envoy in Issyk-Kul Oblast Mirbek Kozhoev, head of administration – head of Issyk-Kul region of Issyk-Kul Oblast Kalybek Zhumadylov and Chairman of MIA OJSC Board Bakyt Sharsheyev and the company management.
"In 2021, the production indicators of the Issyk-Kul International Airport increased several times. Thus, compared to 2019, the number of flights increased 4.3 times, and passenger traffic - 6.9 times. In this regard, it was decided to build a waiting room building, which did not exist before, as the airport worked mainly in the summer tourist season,” Bakyt Sharsheyev said.
Issyk-Kul International Airport is located 5 km from the village of Tamchy and belongs to the airfield class 4D according to the ICAO classification.
The airport has trained staff, as well as appropriate special equipment and ramp mechanization for ground handling of aircrafts. Today, the total area of the airport is 986 square meters. On Aug. 1, 2003, it was given the status of an "International Airport".
