Bishkek, May 14, 2020. /Kabar/. On May 13, 2020, formal talks were held between Kyrgyzstan and the World Bank to discuss additional funding for the "Building Resilience to Natural Disaster Risks in Kyrgyzstan"project.
On the Kyrgyz side, the delegation was headed by Minister of Emergency Situations Zamirbek Askarov.
The "Building Resilience to Natural Disaster Risks in Kyrgyzstan" (ERIK project) is a cross-sectoral project, aimed at increasing the capacity of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, construction and reconstruction of emergency schools, development of the emergency insurance system.
Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, Ministry of Education and Science together with the State Agency for Architecture, Construction and Housing and Communal Services under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, the State Service for Regulation and Supervision of the Financial Market under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic are in favour of the project implementation.
In order to increase the country's capacity in disaster risk management by purchasing fire-fighting vehicles for the Kyrgyz Emergency Ministry, constructing new and reconstructing existing emergency schools, the World Bank is allocating additional funds in the amount of $55 million under the ERIK project.
In the course of official negotiations, the parties discussed a draft financial agreement for the additional financing project and signed the final protocol.
Further, the agreement is expected to be considered by the World Bank Board of Directors and signed by the Kyrgyz Government and the International Development Association.
