The World Bank will allocate Kyrgyzstan USD 20 million to purchase WHO-approved coronavirus vaccines, Vice President of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia Anna Bjerde told at a meeting with President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov, the press service of the Kyrgyz president reported.
Anna Bjerde supported a mass vaccination plan for Kyrgyz citizens and expressed readiness of the bank to provide support to overcome the economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.
President Sadyr Zhaparov thanked the World Bank for the provided assistance and expressed readiness for further active cooperation in the field of energy, transport and logistics infrastructure, digitalization, healthcare, education, agriculture, tourism, as well as the restoration of the Batken region.
The head of state emphasized the significant support of the World Bank in the implementation of projects in priority sectors of the national economy.
He noted with satisfaction the fruitful cooperation in the implementation of investment projects aimed at improving the country's infrastructure. The president stressed that the support of development partners in the implementation of strategic goals and upcoming reforms is very important for Kyrgyzstan.
Sadyr Zhaparov spoke about the tasks facing the Cabinet of Ministers to ensure economic growth, for which it is necessary to implement a number of large projects, including increasing the inflow of investments, increasing export volumes, preventing the country's isolation and rising prices for food products.
The president also spoke about plans to carry out economic reforms, including the development of fiscal, transport and logistics, as well as foreign trade policies.
“The main priority sectors of the economy in the medium term are energy, agriculture, subsoil use and tourism. It is also necessary to ensure the development of the "knowledge economy - creative economy" - one of the promising areas," the head of state said.
In addition, he stressed that the special attention will be paid to the development of the health care system, education, the creation of favorable conditions for ensuring the quality of life and equality of opportunities for all groups of the country's population.
Anna Bjerde noted with satisfaction the reforms in the energy sector and expressed her readiness to deepen cooperation in this direction to identify opportunities for improving the financial condition of the sector, expanding production based on renewable energy sources, developing and implementing programs for reforming the sector and strengthening governance.
The vice president of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia expressed interest and readiness to continue mutually beneficial cooperation in the implementation of all joint projects in various industries.
