WCO regional training Center to be created in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Dec. 25, 2018. /Kabar/. The Regional Training Center of the World Customs Organization (WCO) will be created in Kyrgyzstan, the press service of the State Customs Service (SCS) of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

The corresponding memorandum was signed at the headquarters of the World Customs Organization in the city of Brussels (Belgium) during the visit of the delegation of the Customs Service of Kyrgyzstan.

On behalf of the Customs Service of the Kyrgyz Republic, the memorandum was signed by First Deputy Chairman of the SCS Berdaliyev. The World Customs Organization was represented by Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya.

The memorandum was concluded for the purpose of effective international cooperation in the field of improving the quality of training for customs officials and provides for the establishment of the WCO Regional Training Center in the Kyrgyz Republic on the basis of the existing State Customs Service Training Centre.

The WCO Regional Training Center in the Kyrgyz Republic has become the 26th WCO Regional Training Center among 183 WCO member countries.

Moreover, on December 20, 2018, meetings were held:

- with Coordinator of the WCO Global Shield program Ralph Wagner, who expressed a desire for the need to further actualize bilateral cooperation in the framework of this program.

- with Deputy Director of the WCO Capacity Building Committee Brenda Mundia for discussion of the Development Strategy of the WCO Regional Training Center in the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as issues of interaction of the WCO Regional Training Center in the Kyrgyz Republic with other WCO Regional Training Centers.

Brenda Mundia emphasized that the signing of the Memorandum, given the peculiarities of the State Customs Service Training Centre, equipped with radiation and nuclear safety equipment, would serve as a huge impetus for the development of cooperation between the WCO and the SCS of the Kyrgyz Republic in institutional development at the regional level, and also assured that WCO will provide all possible assistance for the fruitful development of cooperation in this area.

The Customs Service reported that at present, active assistance to the State Customs Service Training Centre is provided by the OSCE Program Office in the city of Bishkek. Further work with this project is planned, the possibility of attracting other international projects and programs accredited in the Kyrgyz Republic in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government Office of the Kyrgyz Republic will also be considered.
