Bishkek, Apr. 16, 2019. / Kabar /. Secretary General of the World Customs Organization Kunio Mikuriya arrived in Kyrgyzstan for official visit, the press service of the State Customs Service (CTS) of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
The main purpose of the visit is to discuss the development of cooperation of the customs service of the Kyrgyz Republic with the World Customs Organization (WCO) in key areas of customs.
On Apr. 16, Kunio Mikuriya met with Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Mukhammedkaliy Abylgaziev, took part in the official opening ceremony of the WCO Regional Training Center, and also held meetings with the leadership and staff of the State Customs Service of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The issues of cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the World Customs Organization, increasing participation in working bodies, implementing WCO programs, including the Mercator program to support the implementation of the World Trade Organization Trade Facilitation Agreement using WCO tools .
One of the main events of 2018, which gave a new impetus to the customs service of the Kyrgyz Republic in relations with the World Customs Organization was the signing in Brussels (Belgium) at the WCO headquarters of the Memorandum “On mutual understanding between the State Customs Service under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and World Customs Organization on the establishment of the WCO Regional Training Center in the Kyrgyz Republic ”.
According to the Memorandum, the educational and specialized customs of the Customs Service of the Kyrgyz Republic received international status and became the seventh regional training center of the WCO European Region.
Mikuriya noted that cooperation of customs services of the WCO contributes to the improvement of customs business in accordance with modern international standards, in order to ensure security, simplify customs procedures and create favorable conditions for international trade. Also, Kunio Mikuriya noted that the WCO Training Center will create a new impetus for the institutional development of not only the Central Asian, but also the entire European WCO region.
