We have enough political will to curb corruption in country - Zhaparov

Bishkek, Dec. 9, 2021 . / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov sent an address on the occasion of the International Anti-Corruption Day.

In his appeal the Kyrgyz leader said that in today's context of globalization and the development of the pandemic with the inevitable introduction of restrictions and prohibitions, issues of combating corruption are becoming increasingly important.

The president noted the Kyrgyz Republic continues to work consistently to implement the provisions of the relevant UN Convention.

“As part of its international obligations, Kyrgyzstan, together with the UN office, has successfully conducted analytical studies and reviews of the UN Convention against Corruption. In addition, Kyrgyzstan also continues to actively participate in the activities of other international anti-corruption organizations. At the same time, the possibility of Kyrgyzstan's future inclusion in the Group of countries of the Council of Europe on combating corruption is being studied,” Zhaparov said.

He added that the Anti-Corruption Business Council is working on the issue of approving a new policy document. It should specify the goals and objectives to be achieved.

“I think that this direction will be taken into account in the new National Strategy of Kyrgyzstan on Fighting Corruption that is being prepared now.

Additionally, the Office of the Prosecutor General was assigned to work out a new draft law "On Counteracting Corruption. It should not remain declarative, but should be implementable and meet today's requirements and internationally accepted priorities,” the address of the Kyrgyz leader runs.

Zhaparov stressed that these and other projects will be put forward for discussion and adoption at the beginning of next year.

“We have enough determination and political will to curb this phenomenon, which is extremely detrimental to the development of our country! Measures in this area should be aimed at improving the quality of life of our citizens, the work of the state apparatus and more efficient spending of budgetary funds!",” the president of Kyrgyzstan concluded.
