Week of French language and culture to be held in Bishkek

Bishkek, Mar. 6, 2019. /Kabar/. Bishkek residents will be able to immerse themselves in the world of French culture, when and what events await citizens was told at a press conference in the French Alliance Office.

French Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic Michaël Roux informed that on March 11, Francophonie Week – a festival of the French language and cultures of French-speaking countries, celebrated annually around the world – will start in the capital.

“In the world, 300 million people speak French, 88 countries are members of the International Organization of La Francophonie, in 29 of which the official language is French,” he stressed. “The week honors not only France, but also members of the organization.”

He said that the main purpose of the upcoming events is to familiarize Kyrgyz people with the cultural diversity of their country through master classes, film shows, conferences, competitions, gastronomic evenings, dances, and many more.

The partners of the Week are the embassies of Switzerland and Belgium, as well as the representation of the European Union. Taking this opportunity, EU Ambassador Eduard Auer invited schoolchildren, students and their parents to the Erasmus+ conference, which will be held in the French Alliance Office. The program allows young people to complete a one-year study in Europe.

Deputy Head of Mission of Switzerland Danielle Meuwly Monteleone told why representatives of other countries support the Francophonie Week. “In our country there are four official languages ​​and one of them is French, thanks to which we are part of French culture,” she noted. “This week we present three events: a master class on collage, a presentation on education in Switzerland and a screening of the film Moka will be held for schoolchildren.
