Bishkek, Oct. 19, 2020 / Kabar /. The World Health Organization (WHO) handed over to the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan 1 million 537 thousand 500 pieces of medical masks.
The press service of the organization reported that, the total cost of humanitarian aid is about USD 460 thousand. This aid is provided through the Alibaba Foundation in partnership with the World Health Organization and will be distributed to healthcare facilities in all regions of Kyrgyzstan to protect healthcare workers.
“By wearing a mask, you send a powerful message to those around you that we are all joining together to fight the coronavirus. Wear a mask when necessary, maintain a physical distance and avoid crowded places, observe etiquette when coughing, clean your hands often, and you will protect yourself and others,” said Nazira Artykova, WHO Representative in Kyrgyzstan.
In September, WHO donated 1,000 PCR test systems to the Ministry of Health of the country to conduct 50,000 COVID-19 studies. The total cost of humanitarian aid made USD 1 million.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, WHO has donated personal protective equipment and PCR test kits to Kyrgyzstan to respond to COVID-19. In addition, WHO continues to transfer stocks of laboratory supplies for sample collection and testing.
WHO also provides support to the Kyrgyz Ministry of Health through online training cycles for health workers, including laboratory professionals, primary health care organizations, hospitals, and public health professionals, to respond to COVID-19.
This assistance is being provided as part of joint humanitarian response of the Emergency Response Coordination Unit, which was activated on March 16, 2020 at the request of the government to assist in emergency preparedness and response to COVID-19 and preparing for early recovery.
