WHO invites Kyrgyzstan to participate in clinical trials for COVID-19 treatments

Bishkek, Apr. 27, 2020. /Kabar/. The World Health Organization (WHO) invited Kyrgyzstan to participate in clinical trials for COVID-19 treatments, Nazira Artykova, Head of WHO Country Office in Kyrgyzstan said at a press conference in the Kyrgyz capital city of Bishkek.

She noted that the WHO is launching Solidarity Trial.

"We invite all member states, including Kyrgyzstan, to discuss participation in such studies at their level. If so, the country should sign such an agreement, and the WHO will send a small number of drugs to be used in clinical trials," Artykova said.

She added a response from Kyrgyzstan is now awaited.

"Solidarity” is an international clinical trial to help find an effective treatment for COVID-19, launched by the World Health Organization and partners.

The Solidarity Trial will compare four treatment options against standard of care, to assess their relative effectiveness against COVID-19. By enrolling patients in multiple countries, the Solidarity Trial aims to rapidly discover whether any of the drugs slow disease progression or improve survival. Other drugs can be added based on emerging evidence.
