Bishkek, Apr.3, 2020. /Kabar/. The World Health Organization (WHO) donated to Kyrgyzstan additional personal protective equipment, disinfectants and medical kits, the press service of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Health reported Friday.
WHO provided technical assistance to the Republican Centre for Immunological Prophylaxis (RCIP) through the support to Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI HSS).
According to information, 65 mobile immunization teams will be provided with protection means and work in all regions of the country.
"The WHO continues to provide technical assistance to Kyrgyzstan, including the provision of mobile teams for immunization and for vaccination of nurses in maternity hospitals of the republic with individual protective equipment, which will protect the health workers themselves and make children and their parents as safe as possible when vaccinating by mobile teams throughout the country," the report says.
"Kyrgyzstan has achieved good vaccination coverage rates according to the National Preventive Vaccination Calendar with the support of international and national partners. We express our gratitude to the WHO Regional Office and the WHO Country Office for their support to Kyrgyzstan’s health system,” state secretary of the Health Ministry Kalysbek Shadykhanov said.
The current COVID-19 pandemic may also have a negative impact on vaccination coverage. This could lead to an increase in the number of susceptible individuals and the likelihood of vaccine-managed infection outbreaks, which would be an unsustainable burden on a health system that has mobilized all its resources to combat COVID-19.
As of Apr.3, COVID-19 cases in Kyrgyzstan have increased to 130.
The first patient, who had confirmed case of COVID-19 died yesterday, Apr.2.
Five citizens have recovered and discharged from hospitals.
