Bishkek, July 16, 2020 / Kabar /. The World Health Organization (WHO), as part of the response to COVID-19 in Kyrgyzstan, donated personal protective equipment (PPE) to the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The press service of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic said that the personal protective equipment is provided through the WHO supply line. The PPE includes 46 thousand 200 face shields, 14 thousand 600 goggles, 57 thousand gowns, 150 thousand KN95 respirators. The total cost of humanitarian aid is USD 508 thousand.
This PPE helps to ensure the safe and efficient operation of healthcare workers across the country. These funds were provided at the request of the Kyrgyz government to support efforts to respond to COVID-19. The Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic plans to distribute PPE to more than twenty hospitals across the country.
“Today, WHO is donating over 10 tonnes of personal protective equipment to the Ministry of Health to support the health system, especially frontline health workers,” said Tasnim Atatra, WHO Center for Health Emergencies in Central Asia and WHO Representative in Kyrgyzstan.
According to her, WHO has a strong relationship with the Ministry of Health and the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, and WHO will continue to provide technical support and advice.
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, WHO has donated personal protective equipment and PCR test kits to Kyrgyzstan to respond to COVID-19 and laboratory confirm positive results. In addition, WHO has donated stocks of laboratory consumables for sample collection and testing (tubes, swabs, kits, reagents, etc.).
WHO is supporting the Ministry of Health through online trainings for health workers, including laboratory professionals, primary health care providers, hospitals, and public health professionals, to respond to COVID-19.
