Bishkek, Sept. 28, 2018. /Kabar/. If cycling paths are arranged around Issyk-Kul, it will be safe and a unique route for cyclists, WHO representative in the Kyrgyz Republic Jarno Habicht stated at the first national seminar of the global Healthy Cities movement under the auspices of WHO.

He also noted that many initiatives in Kyrgyzstan are supported in contrast to other regions of Central Asia. "The cities of Kyrgyzstan have a unique opportunity to join the global Healthy Cities network. The idea of arranging bike paths for the population to get to other cities and populated areas on a bicycle will ensure safety and promote a healthy lifestyle. Little by little, tobacco-free zones are being created. If you look at beaches where you can not smoke, it's easier and cheaper to clean,” Habicht said.

He also noted that the inclusion of health issues in the political and social agenda promotes the creation of a strong public health movement at the local, national and regional levels.

"The national seminar of the global Healthy Cities movement under the auspices of WHO can strengthen the role of cities and ensure progress towards universal coverage of health services through the introduction of innovations in our cities and the adoption of intersectoral approaches to improving health in our cities," WHO Representative in Kyrgyzstan Jarno Habicht said.
