Bishkek, April 28, 2022. / Kabar /. During a press conference in Bishkek, the capital city’s Mayor Emilbek Abdykadyrov answered a long-standing question about the landfill.
He said that he, as a city dweller, would also like a waste sorting plant to appear in the city, so this issue is a priority for him, as the mayor.
“In 2017, EUR 22 million were allocated - 50% of the grant and 50% of the loan. Currently, EUR 11 million of this money are left. It was discussed in many social networks that half of these funds were used inefficiently. Now there is already an audit report, yes, there was no coordination of this project. But still, we don't have to wait for more funding, and with the rest of the money, we want to put things in order in terms of sanitizing the garbage trucks so that they don't spread the infection.
We also plan to create a waste sorting line, thus, the issue of a landfill will be solved by 30%,” the mayor said.
He also said that this week the mayor's office will sign a memorandum with a German company for the construction of a waste incineration or waste processing plant.
